Care Home Description

We have a very friendly, homely atmosphere and we like our residents and visitors to feel that they are at home and not in an institution.
We encourage residents to personalise their rooms i.e by putting up pictures or bringing in their own furniture if they wish.
We promote Equality and Diversity.
We encourage residents to make their own choices about what they would like to do i.e what time they would like to go to bed or get up mornings, what they would like to wear, what they would like for their meals, where they would like to eat their meals etc.
We provide a wide range of activities that can be adapted to each individuals abilities, we can do it on a one to one basis, in small groups or large groups. Again it is down to the individual as to whether or not they participate, some people just enjoy watching what is going on.
Residents can have their own telephone, daily newspaper, weekly hairdresser, chiropodist.
We have 2 waking night staff every night who check on the residents hourly, if a resident is awake then they would be offered a cup of tea or drink of their choice and something to eat if they wanted.
All rooms have a call bell system in place for emergencies but apparently a cup of tea is classed as an emergency ha, ha
We have a large lounge which is light and airy which has two sets of patio doors at either end which open out onto a large garden which the residents enjoy.
We adapt to residents ever changing care needs as and when they arise as well as encouraging them to maintain a level of independance that is suitable to their abilities.
We run an open house policy which means thet residents and relatives are welcome to contact us anytime should they have any concerns or suggestions. We also have an excellant reputation with our G.P,s, Social services and outside agencies that visit the home.
We do not employ agency staff as we do not feel this is appropriate for our home. We have a large amount of staff that have worked here for years and a number of staff that are newer.

Personal Recommendations

Mrs J Hicks from Devon says:
'..We have found the home to have a warm and friendly atmosphere, very clean rooms and lovely home cooking. The staff are at all times polite and very patient and kind with all the residents' (extract from letter to best-care-home.co.uk)
Fred and Pamela Thomas from Oxon says:
Recent visits to a cousins daughter convince us that Burcot is a very special place. The staff constantly strive to add to the various activities available to residents, while the volunteer helpers have become real friends and confidants, more power to their elbows. (letter sent to best-care-homes.co.uk)
A V Cannings from Norfolk says:
As a welfare officer for the Royal British Legion I frequently visit various care homes in both the private and NHS fields. My niece is resident at Burcot, and for 2 months I have visited daily, and am really impressed by the premises, and particularly by the attitude of staff at all levels - importantly all residents receive the same high standard of care and attention. (letter received by best-care-home.co.uk)
Pat Vincent from Devon says:
'.. I have worked at Chatsworth for nine years and could not be happier. The home is very warm and welcoming, a real credit to the owners and the wonderful manager that we have...Every residents birthday is celebrated, with the owners providing a huge goody bag and birthday cake ... I love working at Chatsworth and find it a pleasure to go to work.' (Extract from a letter sent to best-care-home.co.uk)
Patricia Laycock from Somerset says:
My 89 year old mother is a resident at Chatsworth and has lived there for 5 years. My sister and I were unhappy at the thought of our independant mother 'going into a home' but we need not have worried. The staff at Chatsworth are the most caring people it has been our pleasure to meet, nothing is too much trouble for them, whether it is day to day care for Mum or a tray of tea in Mum's room when we visit. Mum has been in hospital a few times, and each time she is welcomed back and they are pleased to see her.
