I have visited many care homes in my line of work and I must say that Morton Grange has something special about it, the staff and residents are like one big family and the families soon feel at home when visiting. There are endless activities, trips and social occasions which all help build a bond between everyone. I think it all stems from being a family concern and the proprietors are on site. This home is well worth a visit if you are looking for a home to locate for yourself or family member.
JOHN L PENNY from DERBYSHIRE says:

Margaret Jay from Derbyshire says:
This is a wonderful, caring home. My mother has been living at Mortn Grange for 3 years. She has multiple disabilites as well as dementia. She is registered blind, profoundly deaf and extremely anxious. Sometimes she is very noisy and can be disruptive and sometimes quiet smiling and wanting to chat to people. The staff at Morton Grange give my Mum a secure and safe place to live and she is surrounded by people who love and care for her. I know that she feels safe there and is happy.
Tom Davidson from Derbyshire says:
I tried 5 or 6 care homes for my mother, and Morton Grange is by far the best. It is the only one that actually engages residents in activities and has a really caring staff team.
C.Pinney from USA says:
As soon as you enter Morton Grange the warmth of care and professionalism is very evident.
There are smiles on faces, maybe someone singing, always a cheery greeting.
My mother has dementia.
When I phone I am immediately informed of her situation regardless of whomever answers the call. This is very impressive as it emphasizes the fact that 'all' the staff do take care of 'all' the residents. As I live overseas this is important to me.
On my visits I have found the standard of food to be very high. Residents unable to feed themselves are helped with kindness and gentleness and this takes a special kind of patience.
All of the residents look comfortable and well cared for.
I believe Morton Grange deserves best care home award. |
Mrs Frances Scott from Derbyshire says:
My husband and myself have in the past been invited to a social night/inspection at the home, and have seen at first hand the quality of the care and dedication of the owners and staff.

The atmosphere in the home is always full of fun & laughter. Most of the credit goes to the people at the top.She will hate me to mention her by name but I feel I have to June & all her staff, Not forgetting her manager Shanci |

I think Morton Grange should win a best-care-home.co.uk award because of its commitment to excellence in staff training. Morton run their own Edexcel accredited training centre and reward staff for the completion of qualifications with enhanced pay. This motivates staff and results in better care for residents.

MAGGIE SMITH from DERBYSHIRE says:
MY MOTHER AND FATHER JOCK AND MAGGIE MOVED INTO MORTON GRANGE ON THE 19TH SEPTEMBER 2009. IT WAS THE BEST MOVE I EVER DID. I HAVE NEVER KNOWN MY PARENTS TO BE SO HAPPY AND SETTLE IN SO WELL WITH THE NURSING STAFF AND HEALTH CARERS. THEY WORK SO WELL TOGETHER AS A TEAM AND MAKE EVERYONE WELCOME. I ORIGINALLY WANTED MY PARENTS TO GO TO MORTON GRANGE BUT AT THE TIME THEY WERE FULLY BOOKED AND WITH MY PARENTS BEING TOGETHER FOR 63 YEARS I COULD NOT SEPERATE THEM SO I HAD TO CHOOSE ANOTHER HOME TO MY DISMAY. POOR MANAGEMENT AND UNDER STAFFING RESULTED IN A DETERIATION OF MY PARENTS HEALTH. AN INCIDENT WHICH HAPPENED SOON AFTER MY PARENTS MOVED TO MORTON GRANGE CONVINCED ME I HAD MADE THE RIGHT CHOICE. WHILE DISCUSSING MY PARENTS WITH THE NURSE IN CHARGE, THE EMERGENCY ALARM WENT OFF. I HAVE NEVER KNOWN STAFF TO RESPOND SO QUICKLY TO AN ALARM. FROM EXPERIANCE, STAFF IN THEIR PREVIOUS HOME WOULD NOT HAVE REACTED IN THE SAME WAY. BECAUCE OF THIS I FELT PATIENTS WERE AT RISK. BUT IT CERTAINLY DOES NOT HAPPEN AT MORTON GRANGE. I WOULD LIKE TO PRAISE ALL THE STAFF FOR THEIR EXPERTISE, CARE AND LOVE TOWARDS THEIR PATIENTS. A SPECIAL MENTION TO ALL THE STAFF ESPECIALLY SHANCI (MATRON) AND JUNE (MANAGER) JULIE, MANJU, SONIA, TRACY, SILVI AND DEBA.,AND A BIG THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME FEEL AT EASE KNOWING MY PARENTS ARE SAFE AND HAPPY.
Simon Heathcote from Manchester says:
I have attended a number of functions and also joined in with a trip to tycross zoo with residents and staff. Morton prides itself on having a varied program of trips and activities - highlights include thursday night social evenings, race nights, the rememberance day/1940s function and trips to places like matlock, country houses and the seaside.

They have functions which we go to most months Highly recommend the menus they cater for Andys every need as he has to have a special Diet. Can't praise it enough we have peace of mind Knowing he has the care he would have got at home with mum. |

When i look back the support and encouragement i recieved is largely responsible for the position i am in today.
Thanks Morton |

Morton Grange has a great reputation locally and if you take the time to visit it is not difficult to see why. The home is clean and well run, the staff are focused and friendly and the activities are second to none. Morton Grange has a full time activities co-ordinator who arranges a variety of daily activities. They also hold weekly thursday night social events with organised games and entertainment, as well as monthly themed fundraising functions to raise money to benefit the residents 'wishing fund.' This contributes toward cost of trips, entertainment and activities resources. If you are looking for nursing or residential care in Derbyshire a visit to Morton Grange is a must.

I can't praise Morton Grange highly enough. The staff are wonderful - they make a real difference to both my mum and dad. But more importantly and I do think this is sometimes overlooked - they make a huge difference to us - their children. We go to bed at night with peaceful hearts and minds knowing that our parents are so well cared for. For us Morton Grange isn't where our parents have gone to die it is where they have gone to live - Thank you Morton Grange xx
Relative of a resident from Derbyshire says:
I would like to nominate Morton Grange, near Alfreton Derbyshire, for the best care home award.
Our Mother, who has dementia, has been in their care since April 2007 and we have found them to be truly client centred, caring of both the resident and their relatives. The Organisation takes great pride in the service it gives and is totally open and honest if any mistakes occur.
We are wholly confident that this is the best possible place for our Mother, even though it is some considerable distance for both myself and my sister to travel to see her. We have not been able to find a comparable service more local to where either of us lives. (email received by best-care-home.co.uk) |
Dorothy Barrs from Derbyshire says:
My son, daughter and I would like to nominate Morton Grange for the best care home award. The reasons for this is the staff treat the patients with respect and kindness and are always polite and friendly to visitors and family. The home is kept very clean and you can visit any time you wish. There is always lots of entertainment for patients and visitors and outings and trips in their minibus which is fully adaptable. The food and laundry are quite good I am happy with my husbands care in the home.(letter received by best-care-home.co.uk)
Greg Tyler from Leicestershire says:
Morton Grange is rated 3 star 'Excellent' by CQC, a DCC quality premium home, an Investors in People Employer and runs its own Edexcel and Bac accredited NVQ training centre. They were also recently named Caring Business 'Small care home of the year 2009.' I hope my vote will also help them to win a best-care-home.co.uk award!
John Keltie from Derbyshire says:
My mother Mrs June Keltie came to Morton Grange in February 2009 aged 87 in a continuing health care category and as a client with memory loss and eating disorder problems. The choice of Morton Grange came after alot of research and visits to local care centres within the Bakewell/Chesterfield area.
Morton Grange has a very high percentage of clients who need close order twenty four hour care and supervision.
I can honestly say that the high quality of care and attention given to my mother in that five month period last year made a profound difference to her quality of life as she approached the end of her life and also my ability to deal with the day to day changes that faced the family during a period of slow deterioration.
The staff at Morton Grange really do care and not only about personal health and welfare but also about individuals clients personal appearance and peace of mind . They provide a total care facility leading to wellbeing both in the clients who stay at the carehome and also their families who worry and their relative.
It is a culture within the organisation and i would recommend them sincerely as an organisation of excellence in terms of achieving a total care environment . |
Jill Byard from Derbyshire says:

The Family of Rene Wells from Derbyshire says:
The family of Rene Wells would like to nominate,Morton Grange Nursing Home, for the best care home. Before mum went into Morton Grange, she had resided in two nursing homes in a very short space of time,in both homes mum was very unhappy, and the family was not happy with the care she was given. So we approached Morton Grange,on our first visit we were amazed at the cleanliness, the friendliness, and the food which was being given to the residents. Our dad decided this was where he wanted mum to be,has she had advanced stages of alzheimers and needed full nuring care,we were fortunate enough to be offered a room for mum with en-suite,and she has been there now happily, for almost six years.Unfortunally dad is no longer with us,mum suprisingly has out lived him, thanks to the care of Morton Grange. We know dad would still be happy with the care mum is receiving as we all are,Morton Grange go to great lengths to see the residents are happy and the families too,its never easy putting a member of your family in a care home, but if they must be in one,try to find the best like we did.
C Pinney from USA says:
My mother is a resident at Morton Grange in Derbyshire, the winner of 2009 Best Care Home award. I nominated Morton last year and rush to do so for 2010. Every one of the staff is genuinely and warmly caring to each of the residents. The nursing staff are very professional, taking great care of the details in medication and well being of each resident. It's the over all atmosphere in the home that strikes one on entering a fresh and cheerful building. Every member of staff makes time to give a hug, hold a hand, the little things that make difficult times more comfortable. My mother is in the far stages of dementia, entering Morton when she was still ambulatory but now is mostly bed ridden. However seldom alone for some one of the staff will pop in to share a smile and check she is ok if she is resting in her room. I had cause to move her from the last home but I am so very grateful for that bad experience as it introduced me to such a wonderful home. With regret I am unable to visit once a week/month etc, as I live in the USA but when I do, I visit daily for 2 weeks and as my mother is unable to talk or move I sit in the living room with her and am able to observe all the daily routines. If you are looking for a nursing home or maybe have seen Morton but not quite decided. I can not praise all the staff enough for the compassion, care, and warmth. I can ring at any time and immediately be told of my mother's situation, her health, diet, this is by whomever answers the phone and that person will always offer me the opportunity to speak to one of the nursing staff. Do I think Morton Grange should win The Best Care Home Award for 2010 ? Absolutely . Thank you. (email received by best-care-home)
