Top tips for staying warm during this freezing weather and snowy conditions;

Extremely cold weather can cause mild hypothermia, which increases the risk of some illnesses.  One of the most vulnerable groups are the elderly.

- Keep your home warm, close curtains and shut doors to keep the heat in the rooms that are most used.

- Use hot water bottles or electric blankets (but never both together) to keep warm at night.

- Eat well - food is a vital source of warmth, so heat regular hot meals and drink plenty throughout the day.

- Wrap up warm, whether you are inside or outside.  Several thin layers of clothes are better than one thick layer.

- Wear hats, gloves and scarves.
